In 2001, the Crouse's bought out Barry's family's farm, taking over the poultry and cattle operation. They began building feedlot facilities that could efficiently run 600 steers at one time. In 2004 they sold their home and 35 acres on the mountain and moved to the farm to better control the operation.
In the fall of 2005, Barry and Lindsay realized that they were losing leased ground to housing developments every year. The county was growing in population; ground was becoming scarce and high priced. They concluded that if they wanted to continue to grow in the cattle business they would have to find ground else where.
They began their search February 2006 in Tennessee and Kentucky and continued to look in West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvannia. They visited 15 different farms, but found none that met their needs. After a great deal of prayer, God led them to look in Missouri. They spent two weeks visiting 10 more farms. After their traveling was over, they realized their hearts were set on the first farm they visited, located in Summersville, MO.
Foothills Farms moved their operation and registered Angus herd to Summersville, Missouri from Slanesville, West Virginia on August 15, 2006 with the assistance of Jim Moore, Tyler Pancione and Keith Bohrer. A final trailer was brought to Summersville a week later by Charlie Moore.
The 580 acre farm consists of gentle rolling pastures and sparce woodlands. It has four cattle working facilities, numerous ponds and drinkers, cattle barns, machined sheds, loafing sheds, shop, and is completely fenced with several crossfences. Completing this package is a brick rancher with a garage. The farm is surrounded by the Angeline Conservation area and several good neighbors.
The area of Summersville is a very small and rural community. We were pleased to find a christian church that is located just a few miles away. We have met many good people, who have opened their hearts and welcomed us into the Summersville community. The christian church has made us feel like family and long time friends; which was great, since we left so many dear friends back at Augusta Church of Christ.
We take pride in our farm and working hard. We are learning something new about our ground and community everyday. God has truly blessed us in this endeavor. We have asked for guidence and direction and left this move up to Him. We know that he has a purpose for relocating us to the Midwest.

Barry
E. Crouse
Barry was raised in Slanesville on his family's poultry and cattle
farm. After high school, he went to West Virginia University to study
agriculture. He graduated earning an Ag Education Degree with an emphasis
in economics. He worked for the State Soil Conservation Service for
about a year, and then for Winchester Equipment Company for nearly two years.
He then decided to enjoy the life of self-employment. He began a small
trucking company, hauling farm equipment and ALO Quicke loaders across
the nation. His love for farming and meeting new people aided in the
growth of the company to include 7 tractor and trailers at one time.
Barry has decreased the size of the trucking company so that he can be home and enjoy the farm and his family.
Lindsay
E. Crouse
Lindsay was raised in Hedgesville, WV on a small red Simmental farm.
She showed cows at the Berkeley County Youth Fair for several years
with great success. Her love for Simmentals then took her to Switzerland
through a FFA exchange program. When she returned she went to Shepherd
College and received a Associated Degree in Graphic Design. Shortly
after college, she and Barry were married and she moved to Slanesville.
She worked for the Hampshire Review in the advertising department;
and then as the Internet Manager. She decided to have a more active
roll in the farm, and pursue photography, web and graphic design on
her own. Now she is busy raising their first child, a daughter named,
Sydney Lynn.
